PREPARANDO NUEVOS VIAJES

El viaje a Myanmar en Octubre está listo para sentencia. Sólo falta que la Embajada en Berlín me devuelva el pasaporte con el visado correspondiente y luego a esperar la fecha de partida, fijada para el 28 de Septiembre. La duración será de 29 días.

Otra cosa es la vuelta a Myanmar en Enero, para fotografiar a los Naga y los Chin. Al parecer, el Gobierno de Myanmar está viendo en el Festival de Año Nuevo de los Naga una gran oportunidad turística y no se le ha ocurrido otra cosa que obligar a los visitantes a viajar con itinerario fijo a través de una agencia oficial, algo a lo que, edn un principio, no estoy dispuesto. Mi guía está haciendo gestiones para conseguirme un permiso especial, como fotógrafo. Ya veremos.

Por otra parte, hace un par de semanas pude reunirme en Barcelona con Javier Remón, mi guía argentino en Sur Sudán. Ya viajé con él hace un año.  El encuentro resultó fenomenal; ambos fijamos el regreso al nuevo país africano para aproximadamente el 10de febrero próximo. Acordamos una ruta alternativa – la anterior presentaba serios problemas – burocráticos y de seguridad – desde Kenia y tomamos varias decisiones de calado. También hablamos del Land Cruiser, el conductor, etc… En fin, esto parece que marcha. Esa zona de Sur Sudán es una espinita que tengo clavada desde hace un año y que,todo parece indicar, podré sacarme en unos meses. Ya os hablaré del tema más adelante.

En otro orden de cosas, ando un poco atascado con la novela – el verano no es la mejor época para encerrarte a escribir!! – Pero en fin, un arreón más y la habré terminado; apenas me quedan un tres capítulos.

Myanmar trip seems to be ready now. I am just waiting for Berlin´s Myanmar Embassy to send me back my passport and the entry visa, and then just wait for the departure date, which will be on September´s 28th. The duration of the trip will be 29 days.

My return to this country is yet not clear though. I want to go back to Myanmar in Enuary, in order to take some shots of the Naga New Year Festival that takes place that month, and also see the Chin culture in the northwest. Apparently, the Goverment there is beginning to realize this event might well become touristy highlight and so, it´s occured to them to make a fixed itineary for those who want to visit them there. An Official Agency would run this journey  and all the visitors would be imposed to travel together. Needless to say they can count me out if things definitely turn out to work that way. Any way, my guide there is trying to arrange some kind of special permit for me, as a freelance photographer. We´ll see what becomes of it.

I could meet Javier Remon – my guide for South Sudan – in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago. We are both planning to go back there next year. The encounter couldn´t have been more fruitful, since we took some important decitions about the intineray, the car and driver we will need to get there and every thing related to security in the area, which turns out to be pretty lacking. We fixed the date of our departure for about February´10th. For me, South Sudan is still sort of a de bebt I am still owing to myself – I remind you we couldn´t reach this remote area a year ago, because of my malaria desease and the coming of the rainy season, wich turned the whole area into an occean of «black cotton». Likely I will settle the debt next years.

Dropping the subject, it seems my novel has come to something of a strand now – Summer is not the best time to stay at home wrinting – Any way, I am very close to finishing. Scarcely three more chaptels left. I just need a final push.
